A Tiny Relationship

She was a flea-market girl
with a pea-brain.

 

damned

constantly, I am
baffled by the banality
of my lust --

an exposed bra strap,
a glimpse of g-string
     above the jeans,
a skirt hitched high –

these things enough
to send me into
fits of wild desire.

somehow, there must
be more to life,

but I’m damned
if I know what.

 

Days Like These

Two days off work,
with this head
cold.

Daytime television,
a warm bed
and a good book,
dozing,
reading,
listening
for the sound
of the mailman
as the rain
taps gently
on the window ...

Days like these
make me wish
I could be sick
more often.
